My train arrived in Seattle around 8:00 pm last night. Danielle and I got dinner, and passed out soon after at our hotel. One of my bar-end shift levers had come loose somehow, so I did my first repair in the hotel room. It was an easy fix—the clamp just needed to be tightened.

We rode our bikes to catch the ferry to Bainbridge Island. Seattle hills are no joke! Ben Bunk came and picked us up on Bainbridge—he lives in Port Angeles. The Olympic Peninsula is so incredibly beautiful; there are tons of yellow flowering bushes lining the road, with tall evergreens towering above, and blue snowy mountain peaks in the background. We got burgers for lunch at a place called The Rail, and ate them on a pebble-strewn beach nearby. We stacked rocks for a while and listened to a man with a broken arm singing and talking to himself in a disorganized way. “If you put frankincense and Einstein together you get Frankenstein.” That kind of thing.

We ran a few errands. We returned to Ben’s house and met his housemates, Josh and Abraham, and their dogs, Hunter and Willie. Willie is a cattle dog who likes sticking his head out of the cat door. Sallie Mae is still the best dog.

Tomorrow, we are going to drive out to Cape Flattery.
