50 miles

I overslept. I woke up to the sound of James and Jonathan leaving. I guess I needed the rest—Jenny and I had been up until 3:30 am or so after the wedding, and I guess I had some catching up to do.

The mountain I climbed yesterday was tough, and I realized I’d forgotten what mountains feel like. I met the eye of a guy on a motorcycle on his way down the slope while I was on my way up, and something in his expression seemed to communicate awe or some kind of understanding.

Now I’m having sort of a dilemma. It’s absolutely gorgeous weather today, with rain in the forecast from tomorrow onward, but right now I just don’t really feel like going anywhere. It’s peaceful here, but I just had a rest day, and I’m low on food, and I want to make progress, but I want to stay put. I feel low on adventure energy. I feel saturated, full, ready to stop, but it’s like there’s one slice of this enormous pizza left, and I know it’s one of the most delicious slices, so I want to enjoy it, savor it…but how do you savor the 23rd slice of pizza?
